cape to rio3

I’ve experienced first-hand the challenges of having a child who suffers from Cerebral Palsy but more importantly I have the pleasure of knowing the joy that my son Stuart brings to our lives. Despite his disabilities, Stuart is a very happy young man, a testament to his character and one of the many qualities that makes him so special. Inspired by him, my wife and I started IMAGINE | The Stuart Hawley Rainbow Foundation in 2012, a non-profit organisation dedicated to helping those with Cerebral Palsy, their families and care givers.

In January 2014 I am taking a mammoth challenge! Not only will I be ticking off yet another adventure off my bucket list, I will be putting to good use that yacht masters training I recently acquired and I will be using this once in a life time opportunity to raise awareness and support for people suffering with Cerebral Palsy.

Before Stuart was born, we wished for him the best life could bring and nothing has changed…we continue to want the best for him, and others who suffer from Cerebral Palsy.

Please kindly support my fundraising efforts by sponsoring my Cape to Rio 2014 Yacht Race. Any amount you can give will be most gratefully received. The money will go directly to IMAGINE Charity where it will be put to good use in helping others.

      Hi Dominique,

Thanks for the support. I am not raising funds for my son Stuart but rather for other children and Adult suffers. My son was the inspiration for the charity!

How zit rob and your crew.
Just to let you know the hillcrest and kloof boys arebehind you guys.
Wish we could send a little constant wind that is manageable for hot ice
To fly along. I was going past Dave strydoms house yesterday evening
And his gate was open so I drove in. We were chatting and he said that
He has just been to Cape Town and some mates of his were off on a yacht
Etc etc and I immediately enquired as to what the yachts name was and it
Turns out to be you guys. I was with al and Lindy over new year so we got
The story of the cape to rio. Keep it up you guys seem to be making
Progress and by your own admission getting into a bit of a routine.
All the best, I am watching your daily blog with great interest, keep it
    Coming through.
    Chow for now.

Hey Rob, We all very proud of what you doing and once again your tenacity, sincerity and the meaningful purpose of this expedition makes us very honoured and humbled to be considered your friends. Take care Mr “John Masefield” Robert Hawley. Look forward to sharing some of your stories when you back in Joeys!
    cheers – Breytenbachs.

    poem by John Masefield:

I MUST down to the seas again, to the lonely sea and the sky,
And all I ask is a tall ship and a star to steer her by,
And the wheel’s kick and the wind’s song and the white sail’s shaking,
And a grey mist on the sea’s face and a grey dawn breaking.

I must down to the seas again, for the call of the running tide 5
    Is a wild call and a clear call that may not be denied;
And all I ask is a windy day with the white clouds flying,
And the flung spray and the blown spume, and the sea-gulls crying.

I must down to the seas again to the vagrant gypsy life.
To the gull’s way and the whale’s way where the wind’s like a whetted knife; 10
And all I ask is a merry yarn from a laughing fellow-rover,
And quiet sleep and a sweet dream when the long trick’s over.
